Technical skills
The OPPASA promotes and accredits the use and certification of the EETS as its knowledge component of its "I CAN" certification.
"The Equipment & Engine Training Council is a non-profit association whose goal is to address the shortage of qualified technicians in the outdoor power equipment industry. In May of 1996, with a handful of volunteers, we set about the task of building this association. One year later, in May of 1997, with more than 100 industry representatives attending our first formal meeting in Dallas, Texas, the Equipment and Engine Training Council was introduced. Our membership comprises dedicated industry professionals from manufacturers, distributors, dealers, educational institutions, and associations." (As extracted from the EETC web site)

Practical experience via workplace mentorship
Mentorship in the OPE dealership has been around for as long as the OPE industry has been around and would be around for as long as there are people who are more experienced than others in the same job. It is essentially the original on-the-job training, where a more experienced employee (the mentor) provides guidance and knowledge to a less-experienced employee (the mentee or protégé).
Combining online learning with mentoring makes an extremely powerful development tool, but it is also extremely cost-effective. This is because you’re leveraging the resources you already have (your experienced employees). It is however important to guardrail the process to ensure a high quality outcome.
